Maine Home Sales Grow by Double-Digits in June

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - Home sales in Maine surged in June, according to a real estate trade group. The Maine Association of Realtors' survey found that sales of single-family existing homes jumped more than 18 percent, compared with June of last year.

That pushed the median sales price up by 1.46 percent, to $187,700, the group says. The median price means that half the homes sold for more and half for less.

A total of 1,788 single-family homes were sold in Maine this June, compared with 1,513 sold during the same month in 2014. The group's president, Westbrook realtor Marie Flaherty, says rivalry for homes is heating up. "If a home is in a highly desirable location, well presented and priced at the market, there are often multiple buyers competing for the property," she says, in a statement.

Nationally, sales of existing single-family homes grew by 9.8 percent compared with June of 2014, hiking the median sales price by 6.6 percent, to $237,700. In the Northeast region, sales grew 12.5 percent, and the median sales prices rose 3.9 percent, to $281,200.
