Maine's Biological Science Industry Touts Growth Over Past 5 Years

Maine's life science sector, which includes companies such as IDEXX and Jackson Laboratory, has grown by 14% in the past five years, according to a new report from the Bioscience Association of Maine.  That's more than triple the growth of all other industries in the state.  The Association's executive director,  Agnieszka Carpenter, says she expects the sector, which has created jobs that range from scientists to lab technicians to machine operators - will continue to grow.

"We would really like to see more of those businesses and more of those jobs here, because they are high paying, and they're not going to decline," Carpenter says.

The report also found that the average annual income for life science jobs in Maine is $95,000, nearly double the average for other industries.
