Portland--Come Light The World!Have you ever bought a goat from a vending machine? How about warm clothing for a child, groceries for a family, or job training for the underemployed?
This year Portland will have that chance. From November 20 to December 10 visitors at The Maine Mall can purchase essential items like from The Light the World Giving Machine to help those in need in Maine and throughout the world.
The nonprofits featured in the South Portland Giving Machines include: Catholic Charities; Furniture Friends; Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine; Ronald McDonald House Charities Maine and Through These Doors.

Tour-goers must be 21 or older. Infant-wearing is welcome - the tour path through our manufacturing plant is not suitable for young children or strollers.
Guests who are not drinking beer can purchase a Designated Driver ticket and will have a choice of NA beverage.
Dogs are not allowed on this manufacturing plant tour.
Drop-in Mahjongg game (every week when enough players rsvp and library is open).All levels of experience welcome (beginners given instruction).We play Asian/Chinese style (easier to learn than American mahjong & no need to purchase annual card).We have multiple sets of tiles, so can accommodate extra players.RSVP: text/call [207-572-2414](tel:207-572-2414) to confirm group is meeting on any given date. Periwinkle Needlepoint is hosting open Stitch Sessions every Thursday from 3-6pm. Any variety of slow stitching is encouraged (such as needlepoint, cross stitch, embroidery, etc).

Come join the IDEAL Maine Social Aid & Sanctuary Band playing at Congress Square Park in Portland ME to celebrate Portland's S'mores Night Kickoff on Thursday December 4th at 5PM. It will be an evening of music, s’mores, laughter and giving back to our community with a Food Drive for Wayside Food Services supporting food pantries throughout southern Maine. Please bring non-perishable food items to donate or good old fashioned $$ to help feed those facing food insecurity in our own community.

Join Greater Portland Landmarks for an illuminating evening exploring Portland's historic past through cartography. Featuring Dr. Libby Bischof, Executive Director and Public Historian and Louis Miller, Assistant Director for Research and Fellowships of the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education, this free presentation will use John Cullum's rare 1836 "Map of the City of Portland with Latest Improvements", to reveal the community centers and development patterns of Portland before the railway era transformed the city forever.
