The South Portland Food Cupboard’s Annual Fundraiser Car Show is a vibrant community event that brings together car enthusiasts and supporters for a great cause. Featuring classic and custom vehicles, local food, raffles, and more, the car show helps raise critical funds and awareness to support our mission of feeding neighbors in need.

$20 per show vehicle. The cost of $20 feeds an individual for an entire month!
Every show car helps feed someone for an entire month.
Spectator Choice Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, provided by Sider's Woodcrafting.

The second weekend of August Jean Kigel celebrates 25 years of exhibiting art in Maine. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 8, 9, and 10, from 10-5, the public is invited to”Eastern Views,” a collection of paintings that flow with the spirit of East Asia and the beauty of Maine. Come smell the salt air in her paintings of Monhegan. Experience the quietude of Japanese mountains. Kigel’s show includes a retrospective of her Maine Lobster Festival poster paintings. In addition one can view her traveling show “Displacement” which tackles the suffering, terror, and hope of the world’s immigrants. Eastern Views takes place in conjunction with SoWA, a tour of twelve south-of-Waldoboro artists’ studios. Map available at www.sowamaine.org. Light refreshments will be available. The public is invited to Downeast Institute's annual Shellfish Field Day on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event takes place at the waterfront facility on Great Wass Island, located at 39 Wildflower Lane, Beals.

There’s fun for the whole family and lots of fresh seafood to sample. The event is free and takes place rain or shine.

Join us for a fun and informative day to celebrate the community of shellfish research and innovation on the Maine coast in Washington County.

DEI’s marine research laboratory, shellfish hatchery, and education center hosts scientists, educators, and entrepreneurs from across the country and serves as the marine science field station for the University of Maine at Machias.

- Chowder, oysters, mussels - all locally produced. Try the innovative Gold Mussels, developed by a Maine shellfish farmer in collaboration with DEI.

- Learn about the programs and take home some UMaine swag

The Lewiston Public Library will be offering drop-in Preschool Playdates from 10:30am-12:30pm on Saturdays* in the Children’s program room.
*(The Library will be closed on Saturday, 8/30 in observance of Labor Day & Saturday, 11/29 in observance of Thanksgiving.)

Drop-in and join us for Preschool Playdates! Preschoolers and their families are invited to stop in during our Preschool Playdates to engage in imaginative play and build friendships. A variety of toys, games, and crafts will be available during all sessions.

The programs will take place in the Children’s Program Room on the 3rd floor.

The programs are free and there is no registration required. All families with children between the ages of 2-6 are welcome to attend. Siblings are also welcome.

Calling musicians of all levels! Please come and join us on the second Saturday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 pm for a community - based open mic session. All levels and musical genres are welcome as are individuals, duos, groups, whatever. This will be an all - acoustic session but there will be a small Fishman amplifier and microphone available on an as needed basis.

Our open mic group shall endeavor to provide a fun and judgement free opportunity to share our musical offerings with others. Original compositions as well as covers are welcomed. Please pass the word to friends and let's create a community where we can gather to play, sing, laugh, learn and get to know our neighbors. The event shall be by donation ($2 suggested) with all proceeds going to The Gatherings.
