Fort Gorges, an abandoned Civil War-era granite fort surrounded by water, is one of the most historic and fascinating spots in Casco Bay – and also happens to be an ideal location for yoga.
On this trip, you’ll paddle from East End Beach, across Portland harbor, to tiny Hog Island Ledge, where Fort Gorges resides. You’ll land on a beach by the fort’s entrance and explore its elegant granite halls and dark passageways. Make sure you check out the gorgeous view of the Portland skyline from the rooftop! Once you’re done exploring, your yoga class will begin in the grassy, calm parade grounds of the fort, and you’ll stretch, strengthen and rejuvenate your body before paddling back to East End Beach.
Both the kayaking portion of this trip and the yoga class are suitable for all ages & abilities.
All paddling gear (life jacket, paddle, dry bag, etc) is included, but yoga mats are NOT, so please bring your own mat.
Please keep in mind that Fort Gorges is a historical structure that is not currently maintained, so there are no bathroom facilities and there are unlit areas that require caution when exploring.

“Off the Charts” is Kenny Gaspar, piano and trumpet; Rick Bernard, bass; Rusty Quinn, drums; and Mike Banas, guitar. Join us for a special TEACH for kids and learn to play No Thank You, Evil!
No Thank You, Evil! is a tabletop game of creative make-believe, adventure, and storytelling. In No Thank You, Evil!, each player creates a character based on a couple of cool, descriptive, imagination-firing traits. The Guide (a special role often played by a parent or older sibling- in this case, by our TEACH leaders) presents a dilemma, and the players set off on an adventure of the imagination. Along the way they use their character’s special skills, companions, and equipment to overcome obstacles. Maybe you’ll rescue a friend from Dragonsnot Falls, save the world’s biggest adventure park from an ancient curse, or fix Whizbang’s broken time machine before it’s too late! Whatever you choose, you’re sure to solve mysteries, gain friends, confront bad guys, and have a wild adventure!
This event is part of our weekly Family Adventure Time programming.
