3 UMaine Students Test Positive For COVID-19

Three University of Maine students have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in isolation.

That’s according to UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy who, in a written statement Friday, said that two of the students are living off campus in Orono while one is in a fraternity house, and that their close contacts are in self quarantine.

According to the statement, one of the students participated in the University's asymptomatic testing program on campus. The others were tested at alternative sites.

Ferrini-Mundy said that in accordance with public health protocols, the Maine Center for Disease Control is managing the cases. But she said that the school will be vigilant in supporting affected individuals, and it will isolate those potentially infected to minimize the spread of the virus and keep the community safe.
