AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap says voter turnout on this Election Day is likely to be low.
As he usually does on election days, Dunlap is visiting polling places across the state. He says his hometown of Old Town is an example of why few voters today are likely to head to the polls.
"When I voted in Old Town this morning, they didn't exactly need to put out orange cones to direct traffic," he says. "I think I was the only person in the polling place. Which isn't a real a surprise - primary election cycle where there aren't very many challenged races."
Dunlap says in most areas of the state there are no primary contests or local ballot questions to spark voter interest. He says some state senate primaries, particularly in southern Maine, will cause local spikes in turnout.
Overall, Dunlap says he's expecting around 15 percent of eligible voters statewide to cast ballots today.
