Every Tuesday and Wednesday through August, Maine Seacoast Mission welcomes the public to enjoy its new high- and low-ropes challenge course! Located at the Mission Downeast Campus at 6 Weald Bethel Lane in Cherryfield, the course will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on August 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27. This event is free and open to all ages.

For all ages, individuals and families can experience the course with the Mission's trained and experienced staff. Featuring high and low elements, the Mission’s outdoor course offers a combination of horizontal challenges and vertical challenges using wood beams, poles, ropes, and cables. The Mission’s challenge course serves the organization’s education and community engagement programs as well as service tour volunteers in the Mission’s Housing Improvement program.

“When an adult or child tries our challenge course, it is more than an opportunity to have fun in a safe environment” says Downeast Director Jenny Jones, “Participants also get to test their own perceived limits and work collaboratively with the folks who are also enjoying the course and staff who operate the course.”

Helmets, harnesses, and ropes are provided by the Mission as well as course-trained staff. Closed-toe shoes are required to participate. Crocs footwear is not allowed. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Lewiston Public Library will host an Adult Beginner Yoga Series led by Chill Yoga co-owner Heidi Audet from 5:30 to 6:30pm in Callahan Hall on the following Tuesdays: June 10th, June 24th, July 8th, and July 22nd.

All sessions are free to attend, and participants should bring their own mats. Due to limited floor space, registration is required. Classes will begin promptly at 5:30pm, and doors will close to ensure a peaceful classroom environment.

Yoga teachers and practitioners Heidi Audet and Nerys Bayley co-founded Chill Yoga in 2007 as a home for the growing yoga community of Lewiston/Auburn. The studio has been at its current Lisbon Street location since May 2010.

These fun, no-pressure creative experiences are great for artists and art-phobes alike, hosted at our favorite brewery in town—Marshall Wharf Brewing Co.

This week we’ll be Making Miniature Matchbox Cameras! Who doesn’t love tiny things? We’ll show you step-by-step how to make a tiny camera inside a matchbox. Fill the box with little memories, story prompts, or very small paintings.

Marshall Wharf’s menu of beers, wine, and ciders will be available for purchase. Don’t forget to tip your wonderful wait staff! Ages 21+ Registration is encouraged but we keep some open seats for drop-ins, too!

The third Salt Bay Chamberfest festival concert is on Tuesday, August 12th, at the Lincoln Theater! The show will begin at 7:30pm, with a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 pm.

Hike to one of Acadia’s iconic summits AND help Acadia National Park’s efforts to restore native vegetation!

Acadia National Park, in collaboration with Friends of Acadia and Schoodic Institute, invites tenacious hikers to bring bags of soil to the summits of Penobscot and Sargent Mountains. You’ll get to choose how much soil you’ll carry – carrying as little as five pounds (about the size of a large freezer ziplock bag) is a huge help! This soil is integral to the ongoing summit restoration efforts in Acadia National Park.

SUMMER SCARES: 2-SENTENCE HORROR STORY CONTEST

Submit a 2-sentence horror story for the chance to win a prize. Submissions will be accepted in three age categories – Child, Teen, and Adult – from Monday August 11 through Saturday August 23 at the library or via email to lplcirc@lewistonmaine.gov.

Submissions will be displayed for judging from Monday August 25 until Saturday August 30.
