Skip the candlelight dinner for two and try a fun Valentine’s Day alternative—you don’t need a sweetheart, just a sweet tooth! Island Connections’ 3rd Annual Sugar Showdown is happening on Valentine’s Day from 4–6 p.m. at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel. Bakers of all skill levels will compete across three delicious categories; Sweet Surprise, Showstopper and Cookie Creations. General admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and includes dessert samples from all categories, tokens to vote for your favorites, live music, and access to the Showstopper raffle. Come celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Shaw Institute! Enjoy Oysters, wine, and cheese (you know those good ol’ aphrodisiacs) before our executive director shares an R-rated lecture on how critters find love in the natural world. He’ll speak about interesting mating strategies, wacky habits, strange mate choices, and relationship drama in the animal kingdom. From eating your mate’s head or doing silly bird dances in hopes of securing a partner, we’ll cover all the best of the wild and zany love stories in nature. Think you’ve been in weird relationships? Well, think again. MUST BE AT LEAST 21.

Yes it’s a great night to celebrate LOVE and Music!
Hat hung low, hands wrapped around a well-worn acoustic guitar, shares stories equally worthy of a dusty old novel, campfire congregation, or outdoor summer festival. For as much as the Maine singer, songwriter, and guitarist wrestles with big questions about life and love in his songs, he also celebrates the magic of spending his days living in a small town. His powerhouse vocal delivery, no-frills instrumentation, unabashed honesty, and eloquent song craft might just make you appreciate the moment a little bit more.

After twelve years fronting The Ghost of Paul Revere, he offers up his story as a solo artist for the first time on his 2024 full-length debut album, Hundred Mile Wilderness, and much more to come.

When The Ghost of Paul Revere amicably parted ways in 2022, Griffin continued on his own. Armed with tunes of his own, he retreated to Nashville, TN and recorded Hundred Mile Wilderness with producer Eddie Spear. Ultimately, Griffin’s telling the story he’s meant to. And we all love being a small blip in his story as lovers of his music.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with your spouse, partner, friend, neighbor, or anyone who loves to dance! This is a beginner-friendly event, so come have fun even if youve never done ballroom dance before! Learn how to dance to several ballroom styles including:

FOXTROT -- SWING -- WALTZ -- RHUMBA

Dance lessons (included in the event) will be taught by Leon and Cassi Griesbach.

Live Band and Open Dance | 7:00-9:00pm

Share the love of Valentine's Day with your friends and family! Help spread the word to all in our community. All ages welcome! Family friendly - kids and teens are welcome.

Band features the talents of Carmine Terraciano on piano, Cassi Griesbach on vocals, Scott Ogden on saxophone and Jerry Barry on drums.

SWING DANCE/CONCERT and SILENT AUCTION. OPUS ONE returns for an evening of BIG BAND JAZZ in conjunction with a SILENT AUCTION. Sit back and listen, or burn up the dance floor with your sweetie and friends. Peruse and bid on the array of great deals on specialty services, unique experiences and distinctive items/gifts. Your ticket and bids will benefit the award-winning Westbrook Chamber Singers who are raising funds for their Spring Performance Tour in Chicago this April.

Join your neighbors and meet new friends at the Surry Contra Dance!

Community Dance 6pm - 7pm
This fun and friendly dance for all ages is led by Bagaduce Music with support by the Open Band (open to all musicians, instruments & skill levels). Show up 15 minutes early to get situated if you’d like to play with us! There's no admission charge for the community dance, but donations are very welcome.

Contra Dance 7pm - 10pm
Contra dance is easy to learn since all dances are taught. Everyone is welcome to dance, regardless of age or dancing ability! There's no need to bring a partner either!
The cost is sliding scale, $15-$25 suggested, under 18s pay 1/2 their age. This dance helps support the Arbutus Grange.
