Jan 30 Friday
True North Theatre would like to invite you and your family to travel with us past the second star to the right, straight on ‘til morning, and into the magical realm of Neverland!
And in celebration of our tenth (!) year of bringing high quality theatre productions to the community we love, we are proud to present TINKER BELL as a Pay-What-You-Wish performance. More than anything, we would like you there to experience the joy of live theatre and journey with us to that place we left behind but carry in our hearts: the Neverland of childhood play.
TINKER BELL by Patrick Flynn is a fresh and intensely theatrical adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic story, Peter Pan, and brought to life by director D. Granke. Exploring the complicated nature of friendship, the stand-out cast of TINKER BELL will draw you and your family into the whimsical and childlike world of Neverland. You may think you know the story of Peter Pan – come experience it from a surprising perspective.
Performances run Fridays, January 9th and 16th at 7:00PM, Saturdays, January 10th and 17th at 2:00PM and 7:00PM and Sundays, January 11th and 18th at 2:00pm at the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre on the UMaine campus in Orono. Now an aspiring young architect in Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, “you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you” —so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. But his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless “nerd” —a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact. And Rick stays on and on, his continued presence among Willum and his friends leading to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence—a dire development which, happily, is staved off by the surprising “twist” ending of the play.
The Nerd is presented by arrangement with Broadway Licensing LLC, servicing The Dramatists Play Service Collection.Dramatists Play Service.
