The Maine Recovery Council is requesting Letter of Intent submissions for its first community grant application, which seeks to provide funding for opioid abatement and remediation programs and activities. The Council has selected to fund Treatment, Recovery Support, and Harm Reduction projects for this first application cycle, with the goal of providing $12 million in funding for projects across the State of Maine. The Council has identified and selected priority strategies for each pillar, which are outlined in the Letter of Intent.
Please note: While applicants can apply for any project under these three pillars, the Council will score applications more favorably that align with their priority areas.
The Council plans to develop a funding opportunity for Prevention programs later this year.
Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent to be considered for the grant application. The Council will review completed Letter of Intent submissions and selected applicants will be invited to apply for grant funding.

Maine artist Russ Cox presents new works that pull you in close, and then pull you even deeper.
Cox’s oil paintings evoke the sensory feeling associated with place, nature and experience. Works evolve from a process of applying layer upon layer with multiple glazes to create movement, translucency and depth. These works are deeply meditative, becoming more complex as they unfold.
Join us as we celebrate Russ Cox’s new works and step deeper into his visionary world.
A full catalog of works available. We are happy to arrange private showings and studio tours. All are welcome.

This small course on PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," is designed to shed light on these persistent substances found in everyday items like non-stick cookware and waterproof apparel. Through this course, learners will gain insight into the nature of PFAS, their widespread use, and the reasons behind their environmental and health concerns. These chemicals are notable for their longevity in the environment and potential accumulation in human bodies, posing various health risks. The course will cover recent findings on the effects of PFAS exposure and introduce innovative strategies being developed to purify our water and minimize its use. It offers an opportunity to understand the significance of PFAS issues and explore actions we can undertake to safeguard our health and the environment.Speaker: Manisha Choudhary, Ph.D, L. L. Bean Postdoctoral Research Scholar, University of Maine
The Bates Film Festival is back and better than ever with world-class venues, a lineup of wonderful films, and a guest list that includes up-and-coming filmmakers alongside movie legends! The best part is that students are still involved in every aspect of the festival’s planning and execution and the festival is still FREE and open to the public! While other festivals embrace their exclusivity, we have built a festival that is INCLUSIVE, removing as many barriers as possible for full community participation.
Maine Historical Society invites the public to celebrate the remarkable story of Joan Benoit Samuelson at this year’s Maine History Maker event.
In 1984, Joan stunned crowds, winning the first-ever Olympic women's marathon in Los Angeles. She instantly became an international icon: a groundbreaking athlete whose commitment, grit, resilience, and civic leadership continue to inspire young women and audiences throughout the world. Here in Maine, she is also a down-to-earth neighbor who reflects the shared values of fellow Mainers and fills people with tremendous pride in our state.
Joan's Maine roots run deep: her family founded and, for nearly a century, ran one of Maine’s leading businesses, A.H. Benoit & Co. Her father was influential in the development of Maine’s early ski industry. From her childhood in Cape Elizabeth to her active work for the Greater Maine community, and educational and environmental causes, Joan is a Mainer first and foremost. Working with close friends and partners, she created and is the driving force behind the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race.
This special evening at L.L.Bean's new headquarters includes a reception with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a program featuring Joan, her Maine story, tributes, video features, and more. Tickets are $80 MHS Member / $90 General Admission. For more information, visit mainehistory.org/maine-history-maker.
The Maine History Maker recognizes Mainers shaping our state through innovation, leadership, and commitment to community. Proceeds support MHS's core activities, resources, and statewide programming.
