Legislative Committee Delays Decision on Acadia Congress Probe

AUGUSTA, Maine - The legislature's Government Oversight Committee has delayed a decision on a request to expand the panel's probe into Gov. Paul LePage's threat to cut off funding to the Good Will -Hinckley organization after it hired Maine House Speaker Mark Eves as its president.

Three lawmakers asked that reports LePage forced the President of the World Acadian Congress to resign be investigated as well.

Rep. Chuck Kruger, a Democrat from Thomaston co-chairs the committee. "We still need to gather some more preliminary information in here from some more people before we are ready to decide on proceeding with a review," Kruger said.

Sen. Roger Katz, a Republican from Augusta, co-chairs the panel and says members did not want to delay the Good Will-Hinckley investigation, which is due to be completed before the Sept. 8 meeting of the panel.
