AUGUSTA, Maine - Gov. Paul LePage is using his weekly radio address to explain the focus of his "Drug Crisis Summit" on Wednesday. LePage says treatment and prevention are important to solving the overall problem of drug abuse, but his summit has another focus.
"The purpose of this summit is to have a comprehensive law enforcement approach to the exploding number of drug traffickers entering our state."
LePage is continuing his criticism of the Legislature for not funding all of the new drug agents he requested. Lawmakers point out that they did fund a half-dozen new agents and two new drug prosecutors.
The governor says the summit will help determine how state law enforcement agencies can best use the resources they have to deal with drug dealers.
LePage has been criticized for putting too much emphasis on law enforcement to ease the state's drug crisis and not enough on treatment and prevention.
