PORTLAND, Maine - Former Maine House minority leader Emily Cain has been chosen to lead the pro-abortion rights PAC Emily's List.
Cain replaces Jess O'Connell, who now serves as Democratic National Committee CEO. Cain will recruit Democratic female candidates as the committee gears up for the 2018 midterm elections.
Emily's List supports pro-abortion rights Democratic women. The Washington-based organization says they saw an uptick in women seeking political office after the election of President Donald Trump.
Cain most recently served as chief strategy officer of History IT. The former state senator also helped found a Maine group which is similar to Emily's list earlier in her career.
Cain was applauded as a leader for progressive change in a statement by Emily's List president Stephanie Schriock.
