Maine Electors Cast Their Votes For President, Vice President

The ceremony was smaller than past years, but the four members of Maine’s electoral college today cast their votes for president and vice president.

The electors, chosen by the political parties of the candidates, met in the capitol building in Augusta. As expected, three cast ballots for Joe Biden and one for Donald Trump, who garnered the single vote in the state’s 2nd Congressional District.

Biden elector David Bright, who was elected president of the college, warned that the threats and violence in the aftermath of this year’s election must not be tolerated.

“This behavior borders on sedition,” he says. “It must be stopped and certainly must not condoned by people holding public office.”

The results of Maine’s vote will now sent to the U.S. Senate and tabulated with all the votes from the other state colleges.

It takes 270 electoral votes to win, and Biden has 306.
