Maine Voters Overwhelmingly Approve $105 M Transportation Bond Proposal

Maine voters overwhelmingly approved a $105 million transportation bond proposal Tuesday.

Department of Transportation Commissioner Bruce Van Note says $85 million will go for highways and bridges, $15 million for multimodal transportation such as ports, rail and trails, $4 million for municipals culvert programs and a million dollars for the Gulf of Maine Aquarium.

“I am so humbled, happy and relieved that the voters decided to support this because, without it, our capital program would have been in a world of hurt,” he says.

Van Note says the state bond matches federal funds up to $137 million, and without that money, only about half of planned improvements would go forward.
