Residents filled the council chamber Tuesday night and submitted more than 100 emails for public comment. Many raised concerns over the environmental and economic impact of similar data centers across the country.

Some councilors expressed concern about city officials being asked to weigh in on international affairs, but the measure ultimately garnered enough support.

Carl Sheline is pushing back against a proposed amendment that will be floated at Tuesday's council meeting, which would specify that as presiding officer, the mayor should, "remain neutral and detached" during debates, and not debate any specific item until it's been resolved.
