Recount Confirms Win of Democrat in Maine Senate Race

AUGUSTA, Maine - A recount in Maine Senate District 21 confirms that Democrat Nathan Libby beat Republican Patricia Gagne. The seat covers the city of Lewiston.

The recount, conducted today under the supervision of the Secretary of State's Office, tallied 6,646 for Libby and 6,563 votes for Gagne, an 83-vote win for Libby. The unofficial count from Election Day gave Libby 6,647 votes and Gagne 6,576.

This is the second of three state Senate recounts this fall. A recount in Senate District 11 Friday confirmed the win of Senate Republican Leader Michael Thibodeau over Democrat Jonathan Fulford by 135 votes.

A third recount, in Senate District 25, where Democrat Catherine Breen narrowly beat Republican Cathleen Manchester on Election Night, is slated for Tuesday.

Two additional recounts, in Senate District 2 and Senate District 13, had been requested, but those requests have since been withdrawn.

All of the recounts are being conducted at the Department of Public Safety Building in Augusta.
