Maine House Overrides 8 More Vetoes Issued by Gov. LePage

AUGUSTA, Maine -  The Maine House of Representatives has overridden Republican Gov. Paul LePage's rejection of eight more bills.

Among the vetoed bills overturned by the Democratic-controlled House on Monday is one that seeks to ensure that standardized tests taken by children ages 4 through 9 can't be used to restrict their entrance into kindergarten or determine their future academic success. The House unanimously supported overturning LePage's veto of the bill, sponsored by Democratic Rep. Mattie Daughtry.

The bills now head to the Senate.

LePage is vetoing all bills sponsored by Democratic lawmakers because they won't support his plan to ask voters if they want to eliminate the income tax.

House Democratic Leader Jeff McCabe said that by overturning the vetoes, lawmakers are saying "no'' to LePage's "obstructionism and partisan vindictiveness.''
