AUGUSTA, Maine - At an impromptu hallway meeting with reporters, Gov. Paul LePage lashed out at critics over his involvement in the firing of House Speaker Mark Eves as president of Good Will-Hinckley.
LePage, a Republican, was asked about the public report released by the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability.
"This is a witch hunt by Sen. Roger Katz," LePage said. "He's been chasing me down since January 2011. I have no reason why."
Augusta Sen. Roger Katz, also a Republican, co-chairs the Government Oversight Committee, which ordered the OPEGA report. The committee was informed this week that members of the governor's key staff will not voluntarily appear before the panel.
The panel now has to decide whether to subpoena members of the governor's staff to get additional information about the LePage's involvement in Eve's firing.
