Maine Governor Lashes Out at Critics of Charlottesville Comments

PORTLAND, Maine - A Maine resident says she is "shocked'' after Republican Gov. Paul LePage wrote several notes in response to criticism of his comments on the deadly protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Portland Press Herald reports that two residents sent faxes after the governor blamed both sides for the violence.

LePage responded to Darcey Poulin's fax in a letter dated Aug. 16 that she must be reading the "liberal press'' and accused her of not listening "until it suits your own bigotry.''

The governor wrote on Laurel Daly's message, "who is the racist calling out folks who have nothing to do with this horrific tragedy.''

Poulin wrote in a Facebook post she felt the governor should not be speaking to his constituents this way.
