Mon May 6 – “HOW TO READ A BOOK: A NOVEL,” by Monica Wood \

Author and playwright Monica Wood discusses her new novel How to Read a Book, which tells the story of intertwined lives in Maine, as well as the power of books to change us. She’ll talk about the role that Maine has played in much of her work, and what she is working on next.

Tue May 7 – SPOTLIGHT ON PERFORMING ARTS

A busy and dynamic performing arts season is already underway all across the state. We'll learn how performing arts organizations are doing in Maine. And we'll find out about a wide variety of shows, events and festivals featuring music, dance, theater and other audience-pleasers.

Wed May 8 – STARTUPS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The start-up culture is alive and well in Maine, with a growing number of people founding their own companies, and an increase in support and resources to foster entrepreneurship. We'll learn about programs that promote startups, and we’ll hear from a variety of founders about how they've created innovative businesses.

Thu May 9 – MOTHERHOOD & MENTAL HEALTH

Mother's Day celebrates the vital role that mother's play--and is a day to express love and appreciation. But it's not a day that usually addresses the toll that motherhood can take on women. We'll discuss the mental health concerns that come with being a mom, from post-partum depression to stress from juggling too many responsibilities. And we'll learn about supports for mothers at various stages in life.

Fri May 10 – “PHANTOM ORBIT: A THRILLER” by David Ignatius

Washington Post columnist David Ignatius has served as a reporter, foreign correspondent, editor and columnist. His new spy thriller follows a Russian student in Beijing, who discovers an unsolved puzzle in the writings of the 17th-century astronomer Johannes Kepler. The story links geopolitical conflict and space warfare. Ignatius joins us to discuss how his spy novels incorporate timely issues as well as clues for readers to solve. He’ll also offer his perspective on global events and foreign affairs.
