The clock struck 11 PM at Elvis Presley’s Los Angeles mansion. Under the glow of red and blue lights, The Beatles stepped into a room that seemed to echo the future of music—a jukebox, a crescent couch, and a bar set the stage. Elvis stood at the center, ready for the convergence of two worlds. That night, rock ‘n’ roll royalty sealed its legacy.

The Lewiston Public Library, in partnership with ArtVan, will be offering in-person art programs.

Starting on September 10th, the programs will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month from 3:30pm-5:00pm in the Children’s Department for children ages 5-14.

Make Art with ArtVan is free, open to the public, and no registration is required. All art supplies will be provided.

Program takes place on the 3rd floor of the Lewiston Public Library, in the Children’s Department. Children aged 5-8 must be accompanied by an adult.

ArtVan is a mobile art program that brings hands-on creative art opportunities for self-expression, personal growth, and fun. All of their projects aim to inspire art-making with a variety of materials to explore. ArtVan programs engage all age groups, encourage time outside and reduce screen time, help youth stay connected, diminish stress, and provide release for unvented expressions of emotions, such as loss and confusion.

ArtVan began in 2004 and has provided therapeutic art and strengths-based programs to under-resourced neighborhoods.

Visit the cemetery's unique field of underground tombs, the oldest gravemarker from 1717, the final resting place of the famed Captains of the 1813 battle between the Boxer and the Enterprise, and the interesting carvings of Portland's first stone-cutter, Bartlett Adams. Tours include early gravestone art, important local historic figures, Portland's historic events, and the landscape of this National Historic Landmark, including segregated sections for Black people, Catholics, Quakers, and strangers. Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the ground is uneven once we leave the main pathway. Tours are held unless the weather is stormy.

Held every Thursday from 4–7pm, the Local Goods Market features hot food, beverages, baked goods, and specialty products from Fork Food Lab members and other Maine makers. The weekly event offers the community a chance to support local businesses, discover new favorites, and connect directly with the entrepreneurs shaping the future of Maine’s food economy. Pet cats while you learn how to make a comfy kitty bed to take home. Amy Rolnick will be teaching the class and will provide all the materials - space is limited to 6 people and you must have some basic experience with crocheting.
