School Bus

The move follows the deaths of two children who were struck by school buses in Rockland and Standish last year.

School administrators are updating their bus safety practices after two students were hit and killed by school busses this school year.

The report says that 5-year-old Simon Gonzalez had his arm pinned in the bus door, was dragged and then run over by the bus.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it's opened a safety investigation into the accident in coordination with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Maine State Police. The agency didn't say why it's investigating this particular accident.

This is the second fatal school bus crash involving an elementary aged student in the past month.

A bus went into a ditch Tuesday morning, but first responders said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
